28th  Annual Lamberton Jazz Festival
Tuesday, March 26, 2002
The Lamberton Jazz Festival was founded in 1974 by Martin Meidl and The Music Mart.  The Music Mart organized and sponsored the Festival for its first fifteen years.  Presently it is sponsored by Lamberton Community Education, the Red Rock Central Music Parents, The Music Mart, Yamaha Corporation of America, United Musical Instruments U.S.A., Inc., Ludwig Industries, and the Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council.

Each year, approximately 24 Jr. and Sr. High School Jazz Bands come to work with five guest artists.  It culminates with an evening concert featuring three outstanding bands selected during the day, the Red Rock Central High School Jazz Band, and a guest university band, with the five guest artists as soloists. Artists in 2002 will be Kirk Garrison, Kim Park, Frank Mantooth, John Fedchock and Jim McKinney. Steve Wright and the Gustavus Adolphus Jazz Band will be our guest unversity band this year. Special Featured Tuba Soloist this year will be Tom Wells, tuba virtuoso. .

Special musical arrangements have been written for this event, including polkas, waltzes, and German marches. They are written in four part harmony for baritone/euphonium and tuba. We will also have a small tuba ensemble playing a couple of neat numbers with trap set and vocal.  Players of any age from anywhere are invited to play in the ensemble.

The ensemble, with a past  membership of nearly 100, is conducted by Martin Meidl from The Music Mart.  Invitations are mailed out from the Heritagefest Office in New Ulm, MN. around early to mid-May.

You may order the Mach meinen einen tiefen Ton books from The Music Mart by calling 1-800-843-8822 or e-mailing us at thetuba@rrcnet.org. The cost of the book is $10.00 plus shipping and handling.
