In the Spotlight.......

I would like you to meet two members of the RRC Staff who are presently serving as the chairpersons of their respective staff organizations.  They are Bruce Olson and Giles Riley. Mr. Olson is current president of the RRC Education Association and Mr. Riley is the president of RRC Education Support Staff Association. I have asked them to share a bit of information about themselves, their families and their work.

Bruce Olson

Mr. Olson teaches 8th, 9th, and 10th grade Social Studies at Red Rock Central. He also coaches during the football and wrestling seasons.  He is originally from Osage, Iowa and attended North Iowa Community College and received his B.S. from Mankato State in 1978.

Wife, Sue and daughters Natalie, Lindsay and Sarah make up his immediate family.  They live in Lamberton.

There are several community organizations which welcome Bruce as a member. He has been a part of the Lamberton Fire Department for many years, serving as Fire Chief for the past five years. He is a member of the Lamberton Commercial Club and attends St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lamberton.

Some of his favorite activities are fishing, working on his carpentry projects and being involved with the activities in which his children participate.

“After teaching and talking about the many interesting places of the world, and now with Internet access to really create interest, I would like to travel to Europe and the Middle East. The possibility exists of traveling to Europe, as a good friend of mine, Ray Anderson, now teaches in Warsaw, Poland.”

Giles Riley

Mr. Riley is head custodian in the Lamberton building at Red Rock Central. He has lived in this area most of his life and has been working in the school system for 20 years. He is affectionately known as ‘Pickle’ to most of the students and staff of RRC.

His wife Linda teaches 2nd grade in the Jeffers building and daughter, Sheela is a 1st grade student there. They live on a farm just East of Lamberton.   His two older daughters, Deb and Karrie, are married with families of their own. Deb and husband Eric have two children and are expecting a third child. Karrie’s family includes husband Craig and three step children. They, too, are expecting a child.

Giles has had a very important part in organizing the Education Support Staff of Red Rock Central and is currently serving as president or RRC/ESPA.

He most enjoys spending time with his family.  Nascar Racing, The Winston Cup, and Busch & Craftsman Series are also activities he spends time pursuing.

We will be spotlighting members of our staff----introducing them through their work, family, and leisure activities. We hope you will check back often and get to know all the people who are responsible for the education of our children.
