Some of her main duties are recording documents, being an abstractor for the county, and issuing marriage, birth, and death certificates. She also issues passports and she records notary commissions and ordinations.
One
of her frequently most asked questions is the cost of the licenses and
how long it would take. The duties of the Office demand extreme accuracy
and deal with the real and personal property
of the county. It's a duty of the Recorder to
see that all documents
presented to the Office for filing and recording are regular and are eligible.
This
work was originally handled in various Town Clerk's Offices of the County
and found that it should be handled in a County Office for the whole
County. The law was then changed in July 1913.
Up to this date, there have
been 1,524,133 documents
filed. Since September 1, 1988 financing statements are being put
into the computer. At this present time there are 122,966 Financing
Statements in this county.
The Office has birth records dating back to 1864. Their death records that start in 1865 are still going to the present.
If you have any questions about marriage licenses or passports we suggest you call or fax Shirley.
