THINGS YOU CAN DO
                        1. Provide a quiet comfortable place for reading.
                        2. Plan a time during the day when the household becomes suitable for reading.  Turn the TELEVISION off.
                        3. Help the child with material that is difficult for him in either word pronunciation or sentence
and paragraph meaning.  You don't have to breathe down his/her neck, just be available to help.
                        4. Assist your child with follow-up exercises that may be sent home from school.
Do not become angry if your child continually makes mistakes.
Instead contact his/her teacher and discuss the problem.
                        5. Be available when an audience is needed for oral reading or when discussion is desirable following
silent reading.  Show interest in what your child is doing.
                        6. Provide praise for good work and any improvement.
                        7. Encourage your child to read as much as possible and provide suitable material.
                        8. Be an example.  Let your child see you read.  Discuss what you have read with him/her.
                        9. PROVIDE YOUR CHILD WITH A NEWSPAPER TO READ AND ENCOURAGE HIM TO READ
AT LEAST ONE ARTICLE.  DISCUSS THE ARTICLE WITH HIM WHEN HE/SHE
                            IS FINISHED.

If you have any doubts or questions about your child's reading ability contact his or her teacher.
