The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) and alternate assessment, Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS), are the statewide tests that help districts measure student progress toward Minnesota's academic standards and meet the requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Students take one test in each subject. Most students take the MCA, but students who receive special education services and meet eligibility criteria may take the MTAS. This is state and Federal mandated. Reading is administered to grades 3,4,5,6,7,8,10.  Math is administered to grades 3,4,5,6,7,8,11.  Science is administered to grades 5,8, 10.  Testing time for reading MCA in grades3,4,5, 6,7 and 8 is 2.5 to 3.5 hours.  Testing time for reading MCA in grades 10 is 2.0 to 3.0 hours.  Testing time for math MCA in grades 3,4, 5,6,7,and 8 is 1.5 to 2.5 hours.  Testing time for science MCA in grades 5 and 58 is 1.75 hours.  Testing time for science MCA in grade 10 is 2 hours.

NWEA

Red Rock Central students in grades K - 2 participate in District-wide tests in early fall, winter and again each May. These tests measure what children already know in math and reading and what a child still needs to learn, to better assist teachers in targeting instruction to the child's "just-right" learning level. The May tests assess each child's academic growth during the year.  Grade 2 and 4 also take a test in Science in the fall and spring. Science testing is 2 hours.  Reading and math is 1.5-2.0 testing.

ACT

The ACT® is the leading US college admissions test, measuring what you learn in high school to determine your academic readiness for college. Red Rock Central must provide the opportunity to participate in the test.   Subjects tested include English, reading, math, science and writing. This is required by state law. 11 graders have the option to take ACT test. The test time for this test is 4.5 hours.

OPLA

Districts have the option to administer the Optional Local Purpose Assessment (OLPA) in reading and mathematics earlier in the school year to familiarize students with the functionality of the items and online tools, as well as the device used for testing. The OLPA is an optional test that is not used for accountability purposes.  Grades 3,4,5,and 6 participate in OPLA testing OPLA test in reading in grades 3,4,5,6, is 1.5-2.5 hours.  OPLA test in math in grades 3,4,5,6, is 1.0 to 1.5 hours.
