My name is Phil Goetstouwers,
typically known by the students as Mr. G or Dr. Phil, and I am the counselor at
Red Rock Central. Since there is plenty
of information that comes to my attention daily, I wanted to provide the same
information to the students and parents in the most effective way
possible.
FAFSA

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Students ages 16-24: A summer volunteer program is available at Sanford USD Medical Center from June 1 through middle/late August for 30 hours per week. Applications must be received by May 1st and can be found at www.sanfordhealth.org.

1. Christopher Lee Miller Scholarship
a. Eligibility: Any senior planning on
attending a 2 or 4 year college.
b. Requirements: None.
c. Awarded Based on: In memory of Chris,
this scholarship is intended for any student that is like Chris in GPA and
effort. A student whom exemplifies a
good work ethic, regardless of GPA.
d. Amount: There will be three $250
scholarships this year.
e. Deadline: Faculty will vote
after first semester.
2. US Bank Internet Scholarship
Program
a. Eligibility: Any high school senior
planning to enroll next fall at an eligible four-year college or university
participating in the U.S. Bank No Fee Education Loan Program

selected via random drawing)

Amount: $1000 (forty scholarships will be awarded)

3. Youth American Cancer Society
a. Eligibility: Any student under the
age of 25 that have been diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21.

paid directly to the institution of choice and will supplement the Fall 2009 semester tuition costs.

4. Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program

great work to benefit the community.

5. American Legion Auxiliary Past
Presidents Parley Health Care Scholarship
a. Eligibility:
1.
Any senior furthering their education in any phase of the health
care field.
2.
Must be a member of an American Legion Auxiliary Unit in the
Department of Minnesota for a minimum of three years.
3.
Maintain a 2.0 GPA
b. Requirements: Complete the
application.
c. Amount: One-year scholarship
for $1,000.

6. Water is Life Art Scholarship
a. Eligibililty: Students in grades
9-12 who have artistic ability through photography, sculpture, painting,
drawing, and short videos.

c. Amount: Six $500 scholarships.

7. George and Alice Mann Scholarship
Fund
a.
Eligibility:

Any graduating senior from each of the four Minnesota school
districts: Windom Area High School, Jackson County Central, Red Rock Central,
and Southwest Star Concept School.
3.
Seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of
study at an accredited 2 or 4-year college,
university, or vocational-technical school in the United States.
4.
Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75.

8. Minnesota Women’s Golf Association Foundation
Scholarship (*One of our students
received this scholarship last year)
a. Eligibility: Female seniors who are
planning to attend a four-year university.
Minimum GPA of 3.2. Although
skill or excellence in the game of golf is not a criterion, candidates shall demonstrate
an interest or involvement in the sport.
b. Requirements:

c. Amount: $3,000 per year,
renewable for four years.

9. Redwood
Area Chamber Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Scholarship
a. Eligibility: A senior seeking
post-secondary education in the field of agriculture and/or related fields with
a minimum GPA of 3.0.
b. Requirements:

conference held in Kansas City, MO in the fall.
2.
Write essay describing how you perceive the future of agriculture
and why are you seeking to be part of this industry.

SFM Foundation

Student
Honor Loan Chapter Loan & Scholarship
a. Eligibility: Any graduating senior planning
on pursuing their education beyond high school within one year of the following
fall OR any 3rd year college student who graduated in 2007, if they
applied and received a scholarship or loan from the Student Honor Loan Chapter
and have completed 5 semesters of college.
b. Requirements:
1.
Complete the appropriate application and turn in to Mr. G.
2.
Repayment plan of the loan must be established within 12
months of leaving, finishing, and/or graduating from post-secondary school.
c. Amount: The scholarship for
seniors is $250 and the interest-free loan is $600. Recipients must be
full-time students and maintain an acceptable GPA in order to receive their
scholarship. The LOAN for 3rd
year students is $450 if all requirements are met and DEADLINE to turn in
application is February 25, 2010.
d. Deadline: The scholarship
deadline is April 9th, 2010.
24.
Redwood Area Theatre
a. Eligibility: Anyone involved with
theatre.
b. Requirements:

CLASSES that prepare you for post-secondary education. The academic offerings in math, writing, and
reading will assist in improving your basic academic skills. It may also assist you in improving your
scores on your Accuplacer test in order to avoid
taking remedial courses and paying for them.
The average cost of a remedial course will be between $300-$500 and
depending on where you place on the Accuplacer, you
