Brief History Of RRC Football

History:

Team Information:

Red Rock Central Falcon Football began in the fall of 1993. During the first 2 seasons the team was coached by, Brian Walker (Head Coach), and Assistant Coaches Steve Wegman, Bruce Olson, and Bryce Pack.

During the first season the Falcons played in the Valley Conference in South Central MN. The teams record was 2-7. Even with the record the Falcons had some interesting moments. In one of the Falcon victories, we trailed by 20 points with only 10 minutes to go in the game. The Falcons were rallied by quarterback Chris Pack and several big special teams plays to win 21-20. Even though the Falcons lost in the first round of the playoffs, Sr. defensive tackle Matt Bedner gave the crowd something to cheer about as he took the hand-off from the opposing teams QB and scored a touchdown.

During the second season the Falcons played in the Red Rock Conference. The second season the Falcons were only able to win 1 game and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The team had chances to win many times but the ball seemed to always bounce the wrong way.

During the third season the Falcons had a new assistant coach, Craig Otto. Craig filled the position left vacant when Bryce Pack retired from coaching Football. The team pulled together and put together a Worst to First season, winning the Red Rock Conference Championship. There were many memorable moments during the exciting season. During the first conference game vs Defending conference Champions Fulda, the Falcon Defense made back to back goal line stands to shut out the Raiders by a score of 6-0. During the season the Falcons won several games with come from behind scores in the last minute: MLBO was won with under 20 seconds, and the Conference title was wrapped up with a score with 9 seconds to go vs HLOL. The Falcons seemed emotionally drained though in the playoffs when they were defeated by the #7 seed Canby.

Just when we thought life couldn't get any better, The 1996 season started. Many unbelievable things happened. First of all for the first time ever we were able to squad our 5 of our front 7 players. Next we ended up 3rd in the conference after 2 tough losses to Adrian and MCC. Adrian was seeded #1 in section 4-C and the Falcons were seeded #2. Both teams won the first round games fairly easily, and had hard fought second round games. Finally the Falcons traveled to Adrian to avenge the Homecoming loss in Lamberton and to win the section title. It was a hard hitting emotional game with the Falcons of RRC coming out on top, getting their first State tournament shot. In the first round of the State Tournament the Falcons had an offensive shoot out with Lester Prairie. The Falcons came out on top earning their first ever trip to the HHH Metrodome. At the dome the Falcons lost to Chatfield (the eventual State Champion for 3 times in a row) in the semi-finals, ending the wild season of 1996.

In the spring of 1997 Coach Otto has left us for the big city and a new Assistant Coach, Chris Pack was hired to take Craig's place. Chris was the QB during the first season of RRC Falcon Football. The Falcons finished with a record of  7-3, losing out to Dawson/Boyd in the second round of section playoffs.  The Falcons only other 2 loses were to Adrian and MLBO.  During the 1997 season we also had a bye week and made up the game on a Tuesday night later in the season when we played ACGC in Atwater.  The end of the season was the end of the whole offensive units high school careers.  Next season we will have to break in a whole new unit.  We will return some defensive starters for 1998, but most of the squad will have little varsity experience on both sides of the ball.  Look forward to a 1998 Falcon team that should improve every down they play.

The 1998 Season ended with the Falcons posting a 5-4 record.  RRC was 4-4 during the regular season losing to Lincoln HI in the first round of the playoffs.  The Falcons were a very young and inexperienced team during the 1998 season.  Only 2 players returned with much varsity experience.  The team struggled, but still posted an impressive record for a team going through a rebuilding year.  At the end of the season Coach Chris Pack finished 2 years of coaching with the Falcons.  Chris has moved on and  Coach Jason Kedl was added to the coaching staff beginning with the 1999 season.  The Falcons will be playing in a different conference this year, with our farthest road games at Sleepy Eye (1 at Saint Mary's and 1 at S.E. Public).
The Falcons will be in the same section for playoffs for 1999.

In 1999 The Falcons went 8-3 on the year.  RRC lost only to Wabasso and Sleepy Eye Public during the Season and in the section finals to Wabasso.  The Falcons were 15 seconds from a Second State Tournament appearance, when Wabasso scored to win the game.  The Section Semi-final game was just as exciting when the Falcons Defeated the Adrian Dragons 21-20.  The Senior class of 2000 gave us an exciting season of football and will be greatly missed.  Among some of the memorable moments:  The 1999 Homecoming game was called 5 minutes before the end by the opposing team because of injuries.  The Springfield game was played in a snow storm with 4" of snow on the field (the most we had all winter).  2 punts were returned against Sleepy Eye St. Mary's for touchdowns..  We were seeded 3rd in the section and ended up 2nd, and 2nd in the conference.  In the upcoming 2000 Season we will again be playing in the same conference with about the same schedule, except the sites will be the opposite this year.  Former team co-captian and all conference tight end and linebacker Matt Jensen will be taking over for Gerald Dammann in the Junior High program.  Matt also will be working with the team in our pre season practices and as a spotter on game days. Welcome back Matt!

In 2000 The Falcons again went 8-3 on the year.  The Falcons losses were to Mcloed West, Springfield, and In the section finals Murray County Central.  During the season the Falcons soundly defeated the eventual State Champions Sleepy Eye Public by a score of 34-12.  At the end of the season we said so long to some great senior football players.  Mike Redman a 3 year starter on both defense and offense was selected as our conferences Lineman of the year.  Chase Hillesheim and Craig Swan were also 3 year starters and were the one-two punch in our backfield for all those years.  Chase graduated as all time rushing leader.  Craig also had the most yards a fullback had ever gained.  Also Craig anchored the defense as one of our all time great linebackers.  All our seniors will be greatly missed, but in 2001 we hope we can reload and continue our winning ways  The season ended again in the Section Finals with the loss to MCC.  The Falcons, Springfield, and Sleepy Eye ended up with a round robin as to who was the Conference Champion.  Even though the coaches involved agreed to this, the "powers that be" gave the title to Springfield.  The 2001 Season starts with over 50 players on the field.  Our coaching staff remains intact for another year, so no changes to announce there.

With the area experts all giving the 2001 Falcons no chance because of losses to graduation, the team still continued the winning tradition  The only in season loss was to Sleepy Eye Public giving the Falcons the conference title due to Sleepy Eye losing 2 games during the season. The team posted a 10-2 record for the Season and playoffs.  The team also won the Section 3-A title and was eliminated by Mcleod West (the eventual State Champions) in the first round of the State Tournament.  The team was led by a small but talented Senior class.  2nd year Quarterback Corey Fishel and 3 year starter Colby Pack led the team on both offense and defense.  Other seniors returning to starting positions on the team were Lee Schaffran at Defensive end and Tight end , Jason Sykora at Offensive Tackle.  The offensive and defensive lines were anchored mainly by juniors that will be returning for the 2002 season.  The mostly rookie team pulled together and continued to improve every down they played throughout the season.  The 2002 Season begins with a fairly intact offensive and defensive line.  The toughest position to fill will be the Quarterback.  As always an experience QB is tough to replace, but we have 2 very hard working candidates.  The Fullback and middle linebacker position is solidly filled by returning starter and Captain Tim Johnson.  We look for big things from him this season on both sides of the ball.  Again we have a coaching staff that remains intact for another season.  Assistant coach Bruce Olson is now the High School Principle and the rest of the coaching staff wishes him good luck in his new position.

The 2002 Falcons started the season with high hopes coming off the state tournament season of the year before and having not lost too many to graduation.  Instead of a repeat of the previous season's performance the team suffered through several setbacks and ended up with the first losing regular season since 1994.  Even with a losing record the Falcons were in almost every game with a chance to win late in the 4th quarter.  We lost in the first round of playoffs to the eventual State Runner-up MLBO team.  Starting out the 2003 season we will be replacing all but 1 of our defensive and 1 offensive line player.  Returning line starters will be Mike Hubert (def) and Trenton Dammann (Off).  In the backfield we will have Sam Furth returning at quarterback and part time starter Izzy Altermatt at a running back.  The team and coaching staff have a lot of work to do to replace the seniors from last season.  To help us get the work done we have a new assistant coach, Kristopher Evje to fill the position that our HS principle Bruce Olson had last year.  The team and coaching staff will miss Coach Olson out on the field, but we wish him luck at his job as our High School Principal.  Coach Evje will be coaching our receivers and D-Backs, along with special teams.

The 2003 Falcons had a tough season with small numbers in players and a very inexperienced team.  The teams season record was a disappointing 0-9, with a very colorful end of the season in the playoffs.  The Falcons traveled to RTR to play the #1 seeded RTR squad.  The Falcons scored first and started the track meet to an 84-42 loss.  Even though it was a tough season, a lot experience was gained and lessons were learned by those returning for the 2004 version of the team.  The Falcons now welcome new assistant coach Derek Stevenson, who is replacing coach Evje in both coaching and the classroom.  Coach Stevenson will be working with the offensive line and defensive backs.  In the 2004 Season the Falcons will see 9 returning starters on both sides of the ball.  In many positions we will still be young, but will use their experience to improve their record this year.  Our captains this year are Sam Furth, Jake Graff, Jed Rhubee, and Izzy Altermatt.

During the 2004 Season the Falcons were much improved.  Although the Falcons only posted a 2-7 record, many games were decided in the final minute of the game.  RRC lost in the playoffs against #1 seeded Springfield with a chance to win with 15 seconds on the clock.  After a tipped pass fell incomplete the Falcons season ended.  The 2005 season will be one of much higher expectations.  With many returning starters on both sides of the ball the Falcons will again be very competitive each week.  The Falcons are lead by a great group of Seniors.  Captains: Seniors - Chase Bierman, Shane Neperman, Colby Prins, and Jake Sell, .  The coaching staff is intact from last season, and ready to get back to the winning ways of the past.
