Student Honor Loan Chapter
formerly Dollars for ScholarsOur main endeavor is to assist students of the district in helping to finance their post high school education. With the consolidation of the three districts into Red Rock Central we have expanded our program to include all students of the new district. Funds are awarded to deserving Red Rock Central High School graduates for post high school education: college, vo-tech, trade school, etc. Applications can be picked up at the counselor’s office at Red Rock Central High School or talk to Arlyce Anderson. You do not have to belong to the National Honor Society or be on the honor roll to apply.
Funds for the operation of our chapter are derived from previous loans, which have been repaid, and donations from individuals and businesses. Any individual or organization contributing $100 or more will have the opportunity, if they desire, to have the honor loan given in their name and present it personally on awards night, which is held in May.
Due to the bequest of a 1927 graduate of Lamberton High School, Frederick Sahr, additional funds have been made available to RRC graduates. Hence, the Frederick Sahr Memorial Scholarships came into existence. Only dividends and interest from the estate of Frederick Sahr are used for scholarships with the principal remaining intact to earn additional funds to aid future graduates. Since the inception of this program thirty years ago, a total of $143,600 has been awarded in honor loans to 338 graduating seniors to help them in post high school education. We believe this is a very worthwhile project for all in the communities and urge your support. We are happy to announce that $74,975 has been repaid and is back in the honor loan foundation.
The honor loans are given to graduating seniors with a signed agreement and understanding that the loan will be repaid once he or she becomes a member of the work force. Regrettably, not all students that have benefited from this loan program have honored their commitment to pay back this interest free loan once they completed their education and have joined the work force. This program is designed to benefit as many students as possible.
It is our goal to see this program become fully funded which was the original intent of all contributors. We are asking your help in meeting this goal. If you or one of your children have been a benefactor of this program, have completed your studies and are working, we ask that you make every effort to repay your loan as soon as possible. Monthly payments are acceptable. This program was designed exclusively for the benefit of Red Rock Central students. Please help keep this Honor Loan Program going strong into the future by repaying any amount owed to the Student Honor Loan Chapter.
In the years past, we have mailed a letter to RRC residents and businesses requesting financial support for the chapter. We have decided to create a home page on the RRC web site and will not be sending individual letters. It is our hope that you will continue to contribute to our Student Honor Loan Chapter. All donations are fully state and federal income tax deductible. Please send your contribution to:
