Red Rock Central District No. 2884

Monday, December 16, 2002

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the Board Room in Lamberton on Monday, December 16, 2002. Members present were: Derickson, Gransee, Imker, Mattison, Meyer, and Moldan. Myers was absent. Superintendent Brennan, Principal Johnson, Administrative Assistant Olson, Dave Nester, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance.

Chairman Gransee called the meeting to order at 8:36 p.m.

Dave Nester of Nester and Nester presented the audit report for the 2000-2001 school year. He also explained the GASB 34 rules.

Upon motion of Derickson, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to accept the audit report as presented.

Upon motion of Meyer, seconded by Mattison and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda, the minutes of the November 18, 2002 meeting, and the treasurer’s report.

Upon motion of Imker, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to set the 2002 payable 2003 levy at the maximum or $380,567.18.

Principal Johnson reported the following: We had a very high attendance rate at Parent-Teacher conferences. The Safety Program presented by Trooper Kathy went very well. Elementary "Saturday" basketball started December 7th from 9-11:00 in the Lamberton gym for boys and girls grades 4, 5, and 6. The girls may start practicing in Jeffers in January. The Artist in Residence was a great success. Paper making was the teaching topic of the week. We thank Sue Redman for having her come to RRC Elementary. The Elementary Winter Concert on Monday, December 2nd at 7 p.m. was played to a full house. The Littlest Christmas Tree was the theme of the concert. The Club Choice fundraiser raised about $17,000 of which we received $6,500 for elementary projects such as: lyceums, class trips, end of the year events, etc. Mr. Johnson commented that he had a great time working for RRC these past years.

Administrative Assistant Olson presented the following report: The Illusion Theatre gave an excellent presentation to grades 7, 8, and 9 on Peer Pressure, Harassment, Suicide, etc. The student teacher tentatively assigned to Mrs. Goblish did not work out, however we have one tentatively assigned to Mrs. Polzin in the math department for the spring. The Student Council is still planning on recycling plastic pop bottles within the school. They met with Mountain Lake to start planning on Integration Day. Charitable collections have been started by the Student Council which include Share the Spirit and Gifts of Hope. One of our student’s homes burned last week and the Peer Helpers Dance donated the food they collected to the family. Also, the FLA is making hot dishes for the family. The 6th grade went skiing at Mt. Kato last week and will be joining Mountain Lake’s 6th grade at the State Theatre for a performance of the "Nutcracker". Some Wadena Tech School students are working with RRCNet. The Grand Piano is finished and a secure room has been made to store it. RRC and Redwood Valley have been chosen as pilot schools for a web site (lifetimelearning.com) which shows our

course descriptions and our students may even be able to register for classes off this web site in the future. Scheduling for the second semester is complete. Schedules will be sent out along with midterms at the end of this week. Congratulations to the Scott Hanson’s and Tom Vold’s who both had daughters born this month.

Moldan reported on the Redwood County Collaberative meeting held December 5th. There will be a reorganization meeting on February 12th. Meyer reported on the Community Ed meeting held on November 25th.

Upon motion of Mattison, seconded by Meyer and unanimously carried, to pay claims in the amount of $69,862.10. Receipts were $331,909.98.

Upon motion of Moldan, seconded by Mattison and unanimously carried, to adopt the recommended changes in the Student Handbook. (Attached)

Upon motion of Derickson, seconded by Meyer and unanimously carried, to employ the following coaches for the 2002-2003 season:

9th grade Girls Basketball Amy Anderson

Assistant Wrestling Chris Brandt

Upon motion of Meyer, seconded by Moldan, to accept the bid from Nohava for $90,139 for the roof as written. 5 yes, 1 no – motion passed.

Discussion was held on all-day every-day Kindergarten and Day Care.

On behalf of the Red Rock Central School District, Chairman Gransee presented Director Moldan with a plaque and thanked him for his years of service to the Red Rock Central School District.

Upon motion of Derickson, seconded by Meyer and carried unanimously, to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 p.m.
