The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the elementary school library in Jeffers on Monday, November 15, 2004.  Members present were:  Clarke, Derickson, Gransee, Mattison, Meyer, and Myers.  Imker was tardy.  Superintendent Brennan, Principal Olson, Lead Teacher Westerman, David Moldan, Jason Kedl, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance.

Chairman Gransee called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Upon motion of Derickson, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda, the minutes of the October 18, 2004 and November 8, 2004 meetings, and the treasurer’s report.

Principal Olson gave the following report:  We need to schedule a Systems Accountability Committee meeting soon.  I will be doing some recruiting for the committee at the Strategic Planning sessions.  Attendance was 88% at parent-teacher conferences November 11th.  The Camfel Productions, “It’s my Life” lyceum was well received.  We have completed 6 fire drills so far this fall.  Water has been shut off a few times without warning because of the construction in town.  The road on 6th Avenue in front of school will be dug up by the alleyways starting this week.  All winter sports practices have begun.  A musical will be presented in the auditorium on November 18th and 19th.  We hosted a MCIS Workshop on October 3rd.   The American Red Cross blood drive was sponsored by the FCCLA under Mrs. Furth’s excellent leadership.  The target was 50 units of blood and we got well over 60.

Lead Teacher Westerman presented the following report:  Parent-teacher conferences were a success.  Mrs. Sorensen has rescheduled her conferences and the rest of us had 97% of our parents or will have in the next day or two.  The book fair was held last week.  We took in $3019.75.  We receive 60% of that amount in free books.  The Veteran’s Day program was well attended. The 5th grade class did a nice job of telling about the flags.  The rest of the students, under the direction of Mrs. Dammann, did a great job of singing a couple of patriotic songs.  Mrs. Musegades was a tremendous help to the teachers in our building in getting the NWEA reports run off in time for conferences.  Mrs. Warner spearheaded a mix-it up at lunch project today.  It was a fun time.  I think we will do it one more time later in the school year with a few more lunch time activities.  During American Education Week we had a poster contest, “School Is Cool” for K-3 grade and essay writing for grades 4-5, “The American Dream”.

Superintendent Brennan reported on the Day Treatment Center in Windom.

Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Meyer and unanimously carried, to pay claims in the amount of $58,666.34.  Receipts were $449,682.27.
