Red Rock Central District No. 2884
Monday, October 21, 2002
The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the Board Room in Lamberton on Monday, October 21, 2002. Members present were: Derickson, Gransee, Moldan and Mattison. Imker, Meyer, and Myers were absent. Superintendent Brennan, Administrative Assistant Olson, Nicole Hoines, Bev Larson, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance.
Chairman Gransee called the meeting to order at 7:42 p.m.
Upon motion of Mattison, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda as amended, the minutes of the September 16, 2002 meeting and the treasurer’s report.
Nicole Hoines distributed copies of the (CAPP) Comprehensive Arts Planning Program report that will be submitted to the state.
Upon motion of Moldan, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried, to accept the CAPP Plan report.
Administrative Assistant Olson reported the following: The Systems Accountability Report was distributed in flyers in the newspapers the week of October 14th. There will be a meeting for this committee on October 24th at 8:00 p.m. in Jeffers. The German Club is planning a trip for this summer. We plan to take a survey of parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences. The Student Council will tabulate the answers to the survey. There were several field trips this month. Mr. Nordby and Mr. Vold took the 10th graders on a tour of the Indian uprising sites. Mr. Vold used money from a grant to have ecology students do some water sampling. The FFA was involved in livestock judging and soils judging. The soils team placed 2nd. The FFA Corn Drive was successful again this year. The National FFA Convention will be held the week of October 29th in Louisville. The Choir attended the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Choral Festival on October 16th. We have a request for a student teacher from SSU for second semester in English. Second semester scheduling will begin in the next 2 weeks. Informal observations of teachers in the classroom are about ½ completed. We have had several complements to our school lately.
Principal Johnson’s report was distributed and read as follows: We had 4 fire drills to date of the 9 required. During fire prevention week we had a visit by the fire department that gave tours of the fire truck and a talk to the students. Red Ribbon Week begins October 21st (Drug and Alcohol Awareness). Events for the week are: wear red day, I believe in me (video), don’t monkey with drugs, and yellow ribbon awards. Grandparent’s Day is October 25th at 2:00 p.m. We are finishing up on the elementary ITBS testing. We use them for Title I placement and classroom subject matter that we need to spend more time on. We are having a Club’s Choice Fund Raiser to raise money for lyceums, plays, and special days treat. Our 3rd and 5th grade students did very well in the MCA Achievement tests when compared with state and area schools. Upcoming events in November will be the Veterans Day Program and Trooper Kathy will speak on safety.

Upon motion of Mattison, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried, to pay claims in the amount of $149,239.58. Receipts were $204,101.07.
Upon motion of Moldan, seconded by Mattison and unanimously carried, to adopt the recommended changes in the Student Handbook. (Attached)
Upon motion of Derickson, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to employ the following coaches for the 2002-2003 season:
Boys Basketball - Tom Neperman B team
Jason Kedl C team
Wrestling - Chad Irlbeck Head Coach
Loy Woelber Assistant
Pat Irlbeck Assistant
Upon motion of Mattison, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried, to set the special meeting to canvass votes from the November 5, 2002 election on November 12, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. in Lamberton.
There was a brief discussion on the upcoming proposed referendum.
The meeting was declared adjourned by Chairman Gransee at 8:47 p.m.
