Board Minutes
Red
Rock Central District No. 2884
Monday,
September 19, 2011
The regular
monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the
Board Room in Lamberton on Monday, September 19,
2011. Members present were: Bierl, Clarke, Erickson, Johnson, Kelsey, Rogotzke, and Stavnes. Superintendent Brennan, Principal
Goetstouwers, Lead Teacher Riley, John Rogotzke,
Denise Clarke, and Joe Dietl were also in attendance.
Chairman Rogotzke called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
The Pledge of
Allegiance was recited.
Upon motion of
Johnson, seconded by Kelsey and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda, the
minutes of the August 15, 2011 meeting, and the treasurer’s report.
John Rogotzke addressed the board regarding the lack of football
bleachers on the visitors’ side.
Lead Teacher
Riley offered the following report: To
help kick off our 2011-2012 school year, we had an open house once again at the
Jeffers site for our students and their parents. It was the evening of September 1st
from 5-7 p.m. Our students met their new
teachers, brought in their school supplies, and the teachers answered any
questions that were asked. Refreshments
were also served in the school cafeteria.
Attendance was good but we felt it might have been better if the weather
hadn’t been so hot. There also was a
volleyball game in Springfield that evening.
We feel this open house helps our students to have less anxiety when the
first day of school does come because they have already met their teacher and
they know where they will be sitting in the classroom. Also they have less to carry to school the
first day because they bring their school supplies with them the night of open
house. School pictures were taken on
September 15th. Our 4th
graders will be attending the annual Fall Field Day at the Lamberton
Experiment Station on September 21st. The teachers have decided that our annual
Grandparents’ Day will be on October 19th this year. We will begin with a program at 1:45 in the
gym. Then the children can show their
grandparents their classrooms and have refreshments with them. We will be having two students from Southwest
Minnesota State University do their field experience in Jeffers. Ken Kraemer will be hosting a freshman
student, Gabrielle Gerdes, for a 15-hour
“Introduction of Education,” in his 4th grade classroom. Gabrielle will be observing, assisting in
one-to-one tutoring, helping with group activities and bulletin boards, and she
will teach one lesson near the end of the 15 hours. Paula Paplow will be hosting a junior year
Elementary Education major, Jennifer Elness, in her
kindergarten classroom. This will
include 15 hours of elementary methods in math, science, social studies, and
developmental reading. Jennifer will
also do 10 days of pre-student teaching in Mrs. Paplow’s
classroom. We have had our first Q-Comp
cluster meetings last week. We will be
working on setting our goals for this year and then the future meetings will
consist of discussing the methods and activities we are using in our classrooms
to reach these goals. We have had 1 fire
drill so far.
Principal
Goetstouwers reported that the start of the school year is going well. We have new expectations and implementation
of a more structured 4A and cell phone policy which will hopefully help with
test results. We have had 1 fire drill
and 1 tornado drill already. In the next
2 weeks we will have a lock down and evacuation drill. Spanish I teacher Candice Duerksen
and long-term sub Laura Brandt have been doing a great job with our new Spanish
curriculum. The Student Council met this
morning to discuss Homecoming.
Coronation will be on Monday at 7 p.m. On

chose to, on Tuesday during noon hour. NRP
was here for cap and gown measurements last week and came back today to kick
off Magazine Sales for the Juniors.
