Red Rock Central District No. 2884
Monday, August 11, 2003
The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the Board Room in Lamberton on Monday, August 11, 2003. Members present were: Clarke, Derickson, Gransee, Imker, Mattison, Meyer, and Myers. Superintendent Brennan, Administrative Assistant Olson, Deb Furth, Kristin Hanson, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance.
Chairman Gransee called the meeting to order at 7:38 p.m.
Kristin Hanson of Ehlers & Associates Inc. distributed copies of the Aid Anticipation Certificates of Indebtedness to the Board. Wells Fargo Brokerage Services was the low bidder at 1.2346%.
Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Myers to adopt the attached resolution in regard to the $780,000 General Obligation Aid Anticipation Certificates of Indebtedness. Upon roll call vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Derickson, Mattison, Meyer, Myers, Clarke, Imker, and Gransee;
and the following voted against the same: None;
whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.
Upon motion of Meyer, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried to approve the agenda as amended, the minutes of the July 8, 2003 meeting, and the treasurer’s report.
Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Mattison and unanimously carried to adopt the recommended changes in the Student Handbook. (Attached)
The negotiation committee reported that a tentative contract with the teaching staff has been reached.
Upon motion of Meyer, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried to pay claims in the amount of $146,054.43. Receipts were $254,083.59.
Upon motion of Mattison, seconded by Clarke and unanimously carried to award the dairy bid (Escalation) to Land O’Lakes and the bakery bid to Sara Lee Bakery Group for the 2003-2004 school year as follows:

Petroleum bids were received as follows:
Lamberton Amoco Handimart: 4 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase.
Meadowland Farmers Coop: 3.5 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase. Payment due on 15th of the month following the sale.
Sanborn Farmers Elevator: 3 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase.
Farmers Coop Oil – Jeffers: 7.5 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on all products offered at card troll station.
Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried, to accept the bid discounts from all the locations that submitted bids for petroleum products and reserve the right to allow the administration to determine which supplier fuel will be purchased through the 2003-2004 school year.
Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Meyer and unanimously carried, to set a fee for Speech and Drama at $10 per event with a $40 maximum for the 2003-2004 school year. In the event that the conference raises the price of admission to a sporting event to $3.00 for students and $5.00 for adults, we will raise our admission to that amount also.
Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried, to adopt a Cross Country – Track program for boys and girls as an extra-curricular activity for our School District and to pair with Westbrook-Walnut Grove for the 2003-2004 school year.
Upon motion of Meyer, seconded by Mattison and unanimously carried, to renew membership in both the Minnesota School Board Association at $1,758 and the Minnesota Rural Education Association at $1,603 for the 2003-2004 school year.
Upon motion of Meyer and seconded by Clarke to order 4 ceiling fans at a cost of approximately $4000 (materials and installation by Hansen and Theis) for the gymnasium. Voting yes: Derickson, Mattison, Meyer, Myers, Clarke, and Gransee. Voting no: Imker. Motion passed.
Upon motion of Imker, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried, to set the Truth in Taxation Meeting for Monday, December 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the High School. If need be, a continuation meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:30 p.m. at the High School.
Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Derickson, to accept the attached resolution regarding Sub-zone Approval to Authorize Tax Exemptions in the City of Storden.
Upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Derickson, Mattison, Meyer, Myers, Clarke, Imker, and Gransee.

and the following voted against the same: None.
Whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.
Upon motion of Meyer and seconded by Mattison, to accept the attached resolution regarding a student teacher agreement between Red Rock Central and Southwest Minnesota State College.
Discussion was held on the following items: Superintendent evaluation, installing milk machines in school, tuck pointing, roofing, old auditorium seats, and having some of the volleyball games played in the high school gymnasium.
Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Imker and unanimously carried, to adjourn the meeting at 9:37 p.m.
