Monday, July 20, 2009

 

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the elementary school library in Jeffers on Monday, July 20, 2009.  Members present were:  Clarke, Derickson, Johnson, Kelsey, Rogotzke, Stavnes, and Westerman.  Superintendent Brennan, Karla Sorensen, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance.

 

Chairman Derickson called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Kelsey and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda as amended, the minutes of the June 15, 2009, meeting, and the treasurer’s report.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Johnson and unanimously carried, to pay claims in the amount of $69,223.68.  Receipts were $264,710.05.

 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried, to approve the hiring of Sara Arfsten as Head Volleyball Coach for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Johnson and unanimously carried, to approve a two-year contract for Bruce Olson which calls for a $2,000 salary increase each year.

 

Upon motion of Rogotzke, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried, to approve the compensation package of Marion Weber, District Bookkeeper, showing a $0.45 increase per hour.

 

Upon motion of Kelsey and seconded by Johnson, to approve the compensation package of Denise Clarke, Executive Secretary, showing a $0.45 increase per hour.  Voting yes:  6, voting no: 0.  Clarke abstained from voting.  Motion carried.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Johnson and unanimously carried, to renew membership in both the Minnesota School Boards Association at $2,948 and the Minnesota Rural Education Association at $1,513 for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Stavnes and unanimously carried, to award the following bids for Dairy and Bread for the 2009-2010 school year:

Dairy -            Dean Foods – Escalator Bid

            Half pint 2%                           .164

            Half pint Chocolate Skim      .159

 

Bread – Sara Lee Bakery Group

            1 ½# Old Home White Roundtop Bread      $1.20/loaf

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried, to accept the following Petroleum bids for the 2009-2010 school year:

            Lamberton Amoco/BP Handi-Mart

            5 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase.

 

            Meadowland Farmers Coop

            5 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase.

 

            Farmers Coop Oil Assn – Jeffers

            8 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on all products offered at

            retail location in Jeffers.

 

            Expressway Sanborn – Staples Oil

            3 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Stavnes and unanimously carried, to set the fees and prices for the School Lunch Program, Drivers Ed, Athletics, Drama, and Instrument Rental for the 2009-2010 school year.  Fees and prices will remain the same as last year and are as follows:

Hot Lunch Lamberton Bldg:  Lunch $1.90; Breakfast $1.00; Adult Lunch $2.90; Adult Breakfast $1.45.  Extra milk $0.35.  Hot Lunch Jeffers Bldg:  Lunch $1.70; Breakfast $1.00; Adult Lunch $2.90; Adult Breakfast $1.45; Extra milk $0.35.

Drivers Education:  $300.00 for District residents; $350.00 for Non-residents.

Athletic Event Admission:  Adult $5.00; Student K-12 $3.00.  Athletic Season Pass:  Adult $45.00; Grades 7-12 $25.00; Grades K-6 $20.00; Family Max. $100.00.  Athletic Participation Fees:  Grades 7-8 $15.00 per activity; Grades 9-12 $30.00 first activity; Grades 9-12 $20.00 second activity; Grades 9-12 $15.00 third activity; Family Max. $100.00.

Drama Fee:  Secondary School $15.00 per activity; Family Max. $50.00

Instrument Rent:  Grades 7-12 $50.00; Grades 7-12 percussion $25.00; Elementary $30.00; Elementary percussion $15.00.

 

Upon motion of Johnson and seconded by Westerman to adopt the attached resolution in regard to the $800,000 General Obligation Aid Anticipation Certificates of Indebtedness.  Upon roll call vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Kelsey, Johnson, Rogotzke, Stavnes, Westerman, Clarke, and Derickson;

And the following voted against the same:  None.

Whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.

 

Upon motion of Rogotzke, seconded by Kelsey and unanimously carried, to accept the Health and Safety Plan, Attachment 99, and to direct Superintendent Brennan to submit it as written.

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Rogotzke and unanimously carried, to approve the Preliminary General Budget showing a total of $5,316,718 for the 2009-2010 school year. 

 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Johnson and unanimously carried, to set the third Monday of each month as the official Board of Education meeting day with the exception of January and February due to National legal holidays.  All attempts will be made to hold the Board meetings for January and February on the Tuesday following the third Monday.

 

Discussion was held regarding concession stand license fees.

 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried, to go into Closed Session at 8:11 p.m. to discuss a personnel issue.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Johnson and unanimously carried to come out of Closed Session at 8:21 p.m. and to adjourn at 8:21 p.m.
