Monday, July 19, 2010

 

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the elementary school library in Jeffers on Monday, July 19, 2010.  Members present were:  Bierl, Clarke, Johnson, Kelsey, Rogotzke and Stavnes.  Westerman was absent.  Superintendent Brennan, Denise Clarke and Joe Dietl were also in attendance.

 

Chairman Kelsey called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Upon motion of Stavnes and seconded by Johnson, to approve the agenda, the minutes of the June 21, 2010 meeting, the minutes of the June 30, 2010 special meeting, and the treasurer’s report.  Voting yes:  6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.

 

Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Bierl, to pay claims in the amount of $61,284.53.  Receipts were $438,467.12.  Voting yes:  6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.

 

Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Johnson, to accept the resignation of Bill Pfarr as bus route driver as of June 17, 2010 and to thank him for his years of service to the district.  Voting yes:  6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.

 

Upon motion of Johnson and seconded by Clarke, to award the Dairy bid to Dean Foods for the 2010-2011 school year:

            Escalator Bid:

            Half pint 2%                           $.189

            Half pint 1%                           $.186

            Half pint Skim                                    $.177

            Half pint Chocolate Skim      $.184

Voting yes:  6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.

 

Upon motion of Stavnes and seconded by Clarke, to award the Bread bid to Sara Lee Bakery Group for the 2010-2011 school year:

            1 ½# Old Home White Roundtop Bread                  $1.17/loaf

            1 ½# Old Home White Sandwich Bread                  $1.17/loaf

            4” Plain Hamburger Buns, Sliced, 12 ct.                  $1.17/doz.

            4” Plain Hamburger Buns, 30 ct.                              $2.68/pkg.

Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Rogotzke, to accept the following Petroleum bids for the 2010-2011 school year:

            Lamberton Amoco/BP Handi-Mart

            5 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase

 

            Meadowland Farmers Coop

            5 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase

            8 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on all products offered at         card troll station.

 

            Expressway Sanborn – Staples Oil

            3 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase

Voting yes:  6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.

 

Upon motion of Rogotzke and seconded by Bierl, to accept the Health and Safety Plan, Attachment 10, and to direct Superintendent Brennan to submit it as written.  Voting yes:  6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.

 

Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Rogotzke, to adopt the attached resolution in regard to the $875,000 General Obligation Aid Anticipation Certificates of Indebtedness.  Upon roll call vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Rogotzke, Bierl, Johnson, Stavnes, Clarke and Kelsey.

And the following voted against the same:  None.

Westerman was absent.

Whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.

 

Upon motion of Rogotzke and seconded by Clarke, to approve the Preliminary General Budget showing a total of $4,979,807 for the 2010-2011 school year.  Voting yes:  6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.

 

After much discussion related to asking the public to vote on a new referendum and noting that resident farmers would pay on one acre plus their home, and that residents taxes would increase $89 on a $50,000 value, the Board passed a motion made by Clarke and seconded by Johnson, to revoke the existing referendum and replace that authorization with a new referendum which would authorize a $1,450.22 per pupil unit cost.  The Board also proposed the revenue authorization would be for ten (10) years unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law.

Upon roll call vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Rogotzke, Bierl, Johnson, Stavnes, Clarke and Kelsey.

And the following voted against the same:  None.

Westerman was absent.

Whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.

 

Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Bierl, to re-employ Jodi Smith as a 50% to 80% staff member assigned mostly to the Title One program.  Voting yes:  6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.

 

Upon motion of Bierl and seconded by Clarke, to approve the Hot lunch and breakfast prices for the 2010-2011 school year as follows:

            HOT LUNCH – LAMBERTON

            Lunch             $2.00

            Breakfast         $1.10

            Extra Milk       $  .35

Open discussion included science curriculum, some volleyball games in Lamberton, licensing of our concession stands.  The RRCNet committee will meet at 7:00 p.m. on August 16th before the regular board meeting in Lamberton.

 

Upon motion of Rogotzke and seconded by Stavnes, to adjourn at 8:20 p.m.  Voting yes: 6.  Voting no:  None.  Absent:  1.  Motion carried.
