Red Rock Central District No. 2884

Monday, July 19, 2004

 

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District 2884, was held in the elementary school library in Jeffers on Monday, July 19, 2004.  Members present were:  Clarke, Derickson, Gransee, Imker, and Myers.  Mattison was tardy.  Meyer was absent.  Superintendent Brennan, Lead Teacher Westerman, Karla Sorensen, Arlyce Anderson, Rick DeMartini, Kenov Engen, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance. 

 

Chairman Gransee called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Clarke and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda as amended, the minutes of the June 21, 2004 meeting, and the treasurer’s report.

 

Clarke reported on the meeting with a committee from WWG which discussed how the sports pairing is going so far.  Numbers are dwindling in most sports.  The possibility of some of the softball games being played at WWG was discussed, but not decided upon.  There will be another meeting after the cross country season to see if it will be continued in the future.

 

Superintendent Brennan reported that the first negotiation meeting with the non-certified staff went very well.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to pay claims in the amount of $100,398.37.  Receipts were $267,885.56.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to renew membership in both the Minnesota School Boards Association at $2,045 and the Minnesota Rural Education Association at $1,575 for the 2004-2005 school year.

 

Upon motion of Mattison, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried to award the dairy bid (escalation) to KEMPS  for the 2004-2005 school year as follows:

 

            1% Milk                      Half Pint                     $.187

            Skim Milk                   Half Pint                     $.179

            Chocolate Skim          Half Pint                     $.185

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Imker and unanimously carried to award the bakery bid to Sara Lee Bakery Group for the 2004-2005 school year as follows:

 

            1 ½# Old Home Buttertop Wheat Bread      $1.33/loaf

            1 ½# Old Home White Roundtop Bread      $1.27/loaf

            1 ½# Old Home White Sandwich Bread      $1.27/loaf

            4” Plain Hamburger Buns, 12 ct.                  $1.13/doz

            4” Plain Hamburger Buns, 30 ct.                  $2.675/pkg

            4” Plain Hamburger Buns, 60 ct.                  $5.35/pkg

Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Derickson and unanimously carried to accept the petroleum bids for the 2004-2005 school year as follows:

 

Lamberton Amoco Handi-Mart

4 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase

 

Sanborn Farmers Elevator

3 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase

                                               

Farmers Coop Oil – Jeffers

7.5 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase

 

Meadowland Farmers Coop

2 cents per gallon discount form the posted pump price on date of purchase

 

Upon motion of Mattison and seconded by Myers to adopt the attached Contingent Resolution Relating to Choosing Nominees for Election to the School Board and Calling the School District Primary Election. 

Upon roll call vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Myers, Derickson, Clarke, Mattison, Imker, and Gransee;

and the following voted against the same:  None;

whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.

 

Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Derickson to adopt the attached resolution in regard to the $915,000 General Obligation Aid Anticipation Certificates of Indebtedness.  Upon roll call vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Myers, Derickson, Clarke, Mattison, Imker, and Gransee;

and the following voted against the same:  None;

whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.

 

Upon motion of Derickson, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to accept the Health and Safety Plan and to direct Superintendent Brennan to submit the Health and Safety Plan to the State Department as written.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to adopt the recommended changes in the Student Handbook.  (Attached)

 

Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Clarke and unanimously carried, to accept the bid from Rick DeMartini of $4000 for the tennis court and fence near the baseball field in Lamberton.

 

At 8:05 p.m. the Board went into a closed meeting.  The Board returned to the regular meeting at 8:15 p.m.

Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Clarke and unanimously carried, to adopt the following policy:  If a retired employee is delinquent for a 2-month period on the health insurance payments, he/she will be notified by letter, and if payment or a response has not been received by the end of the 2nd month, the district will drop the insurance coverage on the former employee effective the end of the 3rd month.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to have Quality Glass of Windom put 2 new doors in on the exterior NW end of the Jeffers gymnasium at $3,336.  They will put safety glass in on the top and leave the bottom solid as per the State Fire Marshal.  The door on the NE end of the gymnasium will be closed up.

 

Discussion was held on RRC Net and the elementary teacher assignments.

 

The meeting was declared adjourned by Chairman Gransee at 8:33 p.m.
