The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District 2884, was held in the Board Room in Lamberton on Monday, July 17, 2006.  Members present were:  Clarke, Derickson, Kelsey, Moldan, and Westerman.  Mattison was tardy.  Myers was absent.  Superintendent Brennan, Mike Pieper, Leonard Runck, Larry Goeman, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance.

 

Chairman Derickson called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Upon motion of Moldan, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda, the minutes of the June 19, 2006 meeting, and the treasurer’s report.

 

Mike Pieper of Johnson Controls presented ideas for our District to consider joining a wind turbine project with other school districts, which would increase our revenue with no risk, add world-class curricular opportunities, and help to save the environment.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to pay claims in the amount of $123,995.82.  Receipts were $358,235.14.

 

No agreement has been reached with the support staff at this time.

 

Upon motion of Clarke and seconded by Kelsey to adopt the attached resolution in regard to the $825,000 General Obligation Aid Anticipation Certificates of Indebtedness.  Upon roll call vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Mattison, Westerman, Kelsey, Clarke, Moldan, and Derickson;

And the following voted against the same:  None.

Absent not voting:  Myers

Whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.

 

Upon motion of Mattison, seconded by Kelsey and unanimously carried, to award the Dairy Escalator Bid to KEMPS for the 2006-2007 school year as follows:

            2% Milk                      Half Pint                     $.142

            Skim Milk                   Half Pint                     $.129

            Chocolate Skim          Half Pint                     $.130

 

Upon motion of Moldan, seconded by Clarke and unanimously carried, to award the Bakery Bid to Sara Lee Bakery Group for the 2006-2007 school year as follows:

            1 ˝# Old Home Buttertop Wheat Bread                  $1.32/loaf

            1 ˝# Old Home White Roundtop Bread                  $1.34/loaf

            1 ˝# Old Home White Sandwich Bread                  $1.34/loaf

            4” Plain Hamburger Buns, Sliced, 12 ct.                  $1.24/doz.

            4” Plain Hamburger Buns, 30 ct.                              $2.85/pkg.

The Petroleum bids are as follows:

            2 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase

            2 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase

7.5 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on all products offered at card toll station.

 

            Staples Oil Co.

            7 cents per gallon discount from the posted pump price on date of purchase.

 

Upon motion of Westerman, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to accept the Health and Safety Plan, Attachment 99, and to direct Superintendent Brennan to submit the Health and Safety Plan to the State Department as written.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried, to set the following fees and prices for the 2006-2007 school year:  Driver Education:  $250.00.  Hot Lunch Lamberton Bldg:  Lunch $1.80; Breakfast $1.00; Adult Lunch $2.70; Adult Breakfast $1.35.  Hot Lunch Jeffers Bldg:  Lunch $1.60; Breakfast $1.00; Adult Lunch $2.70; Adult Breakfast $1.35.  Athletic Event Admission:  Adult $5.00; Student K-12 $3.00.  Athletic Season Pass:  Adult $40.00; Grades 7-12 $22.50; Grades K-6 $16.00; Family Max:  $90.00.  Athletic Participation Fees:  Grades 7-8 $10.00 per activity; Grades 9-12 $25.00 first activity, $15.00 second activity, $10.00 third activity; Family Max. $75.00.  Speech/Drama Fee:  High School $10.00 per activity; Family Max. $40.00.  Instrument Rent:  Grades 7-12 $50.00; Grades 7-12 percussion $25.00; Elementary $30.00; Elementary percussion $15.00.

 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to approve Bruce Olson’s contract for the next three years.  Compensation for the 2006-07 school year shall be $64,500, $68,000 for the 2007-08 school year, and $71,500 for the 2008-09 school year.  

 

Discussion was held on the wind turbines project, a sale at the Marshall High School, and corn burners.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried to adjourn at 9:22 p.m.
