The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the elementary school library in Jeffers on Monday, July 16, 2007.  Members present were:  Clarke, Derickson, Kelsey, Moldan, Myers, Rogotzke, and Westerman.  Superintendent Brennan, Jeff Shaner, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance.

 

Chairman Derickson called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Rogotzke and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda, the minutes of the June 18, 2007 meeting, and the treasurer’s report.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to pay claims in the amount of $80,023.14.  Receipts were $363,866.55.

 

Upon motion of Moldan, seconded by Rogotzke and unanimously carried, to award the following bids for Dairy, Bread, and Petroleum for the 2007-08 school year as follows:

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried, to set the following fees and prices for the 2007-2008 school year at the same amounts as last year:  Driver Education:  $250.00.  Hot Lunch Lamberton Bldg:  Lunch $1.80; Breakfast $1.00; Adult Lunch $2.70; Adult Breakfast $1.35.  Hot Lunch Jeffers Bldg:  Lunch $1.60; Breakfast $1.00; Adult Lunch $2.70; Adult Breakfast $1.35.  Athletic Event Admission:  Adult $5.00; Student K-12 $3.00.  Athletic Season Pass:  Adult $40.00; Grades 7-12 $22.50; Grades K-6 $16.00; Family Max:  $90.00.  Athletic Participation Fees:  Grades 7-8 $10.00 per activity; Grades 9-12 $25.00 first activity, $15.00 second activity, $10.00 third activity; Family Max. $75.00.  Speech/Drama Fee:  High School $10.00 per activity; Family Max. $40.00.  Instrument Rent:  Grades 7-12 $50.00; Grades 7-12 percussion $25.00; Elementary $30.00; Elementary percussion $15.00.

 

Upon motion of Rogotzke, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to accept the Health and Safety Plan, Attachment 99, and to direct Superintendent Brennan to submit it to the State Department as written.

 

Upon motion of Myers and seconded by Moldan to adopt the attached resolution in regard to the $590,000 General Obligation Aid Anticipation Certificates of Indebtedness.  Upon roll call vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Myers, Moldan, Westerman, Rogotzke, Clarke, Kelsey, and Derickson;

And the following voted against the same:  None.

Whereupon said resolution, having received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members, was declared duly passed and adopted.

 

Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Westerman and unanimously carried, to renew membership in both the Minnesota School Boards Association at $2,761 and the Minnesota Rural Education Association at $1,538 for the 2007-2008 school year.

 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Rogotzke and unanimously carried, to set the Truth in Taxation Meeting for Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the High School Board Room in Lamberton.  If need be, a continuation meeting will be held on Monday, December 17, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at the High School Board Room in Lamberton.  The Board will hold the Levy Adoption during the regular meeting on December 17, 2007 at 8:30 p.m. in Lamberton following the music concert.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Rogotzke and unanimously carried, to rescind the contract entered into with Lamberton Heating and Plumbing at a prior meeting to correct the water problem in the alley.

 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to work with the City of Lamberton to route rainwater underground to the North of the building.

 

The Board moved to the elementary gym where Jeff Shaner showed them the painting job that he and several other volunteers did this past month.  Volunteers were:  Jeff Shaner, Mary Shaner, Kari Shaner, Kelly Shaner, Bill Nickel, Kim Nickel, Cierra Nickel, Bryce Pack, Paul Grote, and Barry Bondhus.

A Negotiation Meeting was held on July 10th and another will be held on August 7th.  Discussion was held regarding the hearing process.  It was agreed that in the future, if the Board doesn’t get the information before the hearing, a second meeting will automatically be scheduled for a few days following the first meeting.  If a decision can be made at the original hearing, the second meeting can be cancelled.

 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Rogotzke and unanimously carried, to adjourn at 8:11 p.m.
