Monday, March 16, 2015

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No, 2884 was held in the Board Room in Lamberton on Monday, March 16, 2015.  Members present were: Bierl, Clarke, Hansen, Kelsey, Rogotzke, and Stavnes.  Member absent: Rasmussen. Others in attendance: Superintendent Olson, Phil Goetstouwers, Jan Benedict, Karla Sorenson, Mary Hewitt, Meredith Flaig,  Doreen Kronback and Joe Dietl.

Monsanto Representatives Brent Baune, Jesse Fast with Kim Holck presented a check to the RRC Elementary Staff in the amount of $2500.00 from Monsanto designated by Kim and Jeanne Holck for the Red Rock Central Elementary Building.  The money will be used to purchase computers for Jeffers Building.

Chairman Rogotzke called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Kelsey, and unanimously carried to approve the Agenda, February 18, 2015 Board Minutes and Treasurer’s report as presented.

The board visited the FAB Lab, Mr. Wegman was available to explain the programs that were in progress in the lab equipment.

Lead Teacher Altermatt’s report was distributed and read as follows: George Nelson a fur trader for Hudson Bay will present a lyceum for grades 1 – 4 on March 17, and the fourth graders attended the Children’s Water Festival in Mankato on March 11, The program was for fourth graders in Brown Nicollet and Cottonwood counties, 845 students were in attendance, the Science Museum presented a program on the water cycle, mini sessions subjects included Minnesota glaciers, invasive species and the students made fishing lures. Many free items were distributed throughout the day.  The students had a great time.

Principal Goetstouwers reported the following:  RRC State and Section 3A Academic awards: Champion award was received by the Wrestling Team (second consecutive year), Champion award was received by the Boys Basketball Team (3 times in last 5 years) and Silver Academic Status was received by the Girls Basketball Team; Large Group Music Contest, Band and Choir both received 3 Superiors, was streamed live on High School Cube with 950 plus current viewers; National Honor Society Induction ceremony will be held Monday March 23, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in Cafeteria, new members are: Rene Celedon, Joel Derickson, Mikayla Hubin, Ericka Rogotzke, Jordan Schroepfer, Anay Mattison, Elijah Meier, Emma Stavnes, Brandon VanMeveren, Taylor Bunting, Luke Engen, Trevor Pederson, Hannah Stevenson and Danielle Wacker. Current members include Thomas Blomgren, Carter Engen, Hannah Engen, Reid Goeman, Alexi Osland, Mikaela Smith and Payton Vold; Knowledge Bowl members Joel Derickson, Carter Engen, Rene Celedon Hannah Engen and Payton Vold advanced to regions with a fourth place, missing

medals by .5points, they placed sixth at Regions, another team missed advancing to Regions by .5 points; Accommodations Workshop was presented after school for teachers, required for teacher license renewal requirements; Driver’s Education training should be completed by end of the week, Mandatory Parents Drivers Education meeting will be held March 16, at 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.; March 16 at 6:00p.m. the Senior Class Trip Mandatory Parents meeting is being held, the trip is March 25 with a 10:00 a.m. departure, students and bags to be at school at 8:30 a.m., they return Sunday, March 29 and will be required to be in school Monday, March 30., students not going will stay home from school; Eric Timm presented a lyceum on eliminating words of death and promoting words of life – be kind; Spring Play “Usher” was comical and entertaining, nice job; Spring sports are underway; Working on registration/scheduling for next year; End of quarter is Monday, March 23 and the Jazz Festival is Tuesday, March 24, 2015, no school, teacher workday, Festival will be streamed live on High School Cube.  

Superintendent Olson reported on the following:  The State is allowing a fund balance transfer from Communiity Service Funds; Working on acquiring additional bids for Auditorium entry doors; Phone bid from Arvig was $20,000.00, will wait on this project, and health insurance bids were awarded to the Service Coop lowest bidder Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Hansen and unanimously carried, to approve all claims for payment in the amount of $116,899.22.  Receipts were $853,831.04 and investments of $823,921.78. 

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Bierl and unanimously carried, to hold a dedication of the Fab Lab in memory of Dr. John Brennan.

Upon motion of Rasmussen, seconded by Bierl and unanimously carried, to approve the 2015-2016 Achievement and Integration Plan as presented.

Upon motion of Bierl, seconded by Hansen and unanimously carried, to approve the 2015-2016 SW/WC Service Contract in the amount of $142288.86

Upon motion of Kelsey, seconded by Stavnes and unanimously carried, to approve the bid in the amount of $15,774.00 from Anderson Ladd, Inc to resurface the Auditorium floor, replace bad flooring spots and paint the volleyball court lines in the Gymnasium.  The Auditorium floor work will be paid for with Auditorium Project Funds and the court lines will be paid for with district funds.

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Kelsey and unanimously carried, to approve the bid from WTI General Services, Tremco Incorporated in the amount of $23,068.55 to repair the Auditorium roof. Included in the bid is removal and replacement of wet insulation areas and a 12 year warranty which includes inspections in years 2, 5, and 10.

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Hansen and unanimously carried, to approve pairing with Westbrook/Walnut Grove for 2014-2105 Softball.

Upon motion of Stavnes, seconded by Bierl and unanimously carried, to accept the resignation of Karla Sorenson and thank her for her many years of service.

Other discussion included the following:  Request was made for Superintendent Olson to put together information to be used in developing a 3 and 5 year plan for the district; If District Daycare is still being considered and the bus garage improvements look good.

Upon motion of Clarke seconded by Stavnes and unanimously carried, to change the April regular monthly meeting to Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.

Upon motion of Hansen, seconded by Clarke and unanimously carried, to allow Superintendent Olson to enter information to the MDEA processing site.

Upon motion of Clarke, seconded by Hansen and unanimously carried, to adjourn at 6:20 p.m.

The next regular monthly meeting will held Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.
