School Board Minutes

Red Rock Central District No. 2884

Monday, March 14, 2005

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, District No. 2884, was held in the elementary school library in Jeffers on Monday, March 14, 2005.  Members present were:  Derickson, Meyer, Moldan, and Myers.  Clarke was tardy.  Greenfield and Mattison were absent.  Superintendent Brennan, Lead Teacher Westerman, Roger Hoehne, Jennifer Gillis, Joe Dietl, and Denise Clarke were also in attendance.

At 7:35 p.m. the Board took a tour of the Jeffers building led by Roger Hoehne and Judy Westerman.

Chairman Derickson called the meeting to order at 8:25 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Upon motion of Moldan, seconded by Myers and unanimously carried, to approve the agenda, the minutes of the February 14, 2005 regular meeting, and the treasurer’s report.

Lead Teacher Westerman offered the following report:  We have been having some trouble with the computers in the library.  Leonard Runck and Charles Nordby were here and helped to get things organized again.  Jeanette Mattison has also been in the library helping for 3 weeks.  The NWEA test schedule will be the first 2 weeks in May.  Turn Off the TV Week will be the last week in April.

Principal Olson’s report was distributed to the Board:  Steel Drums lyceum was on March 15th.  The entertainer played and gave history on the steel drum.  The Academic Decathlon team finished 3rd place at State.  Many medals were won by this year’s team.  There seems to be some question as to the future of this event.  Through the years I believe it has been a positive showcase for RRC academics.  The Mid-winter concert was held on March 7th.  The production was many of the choir and band’s contest pieces.  Large Group Music contest is tomorrow at Springfield.  Both choir and band will be attending.  NWEA testing will begin in this school during the beginning of April.  Pre-registration/scheduling is underway.  Language Arts Curriculum Mapping is set for this summer at the end of June.  We hope to have a workshop on CPR during the workday.  We are looking at purchasing defibrillators for both buildings.  The Lamberton Legion has said they will donate $500 to this.  The lowest cost so far for defib units is around $1750.

Derickson and Clarke attended the CRTC meeting on March 7th.  The committee voted to terminate all instructors.  The committee was reorganized, with Darvin Voge being named Chairman.  Auction of the contents will be held on June 21 and 22, with Rich Reiner as Auctioneer.

Upon motion of Myers, seconded by Clarke and unanimously carried, to pay claims in the amount of $100,604.22.  Receipts were $391,240.35.

Upon motion of Meyer, seconded by Moldan and unanimously carried, to accept the resignations, due to retirement, of Judy Westerman as 1st grade and Lead Teacher, and
