American Library Association - This group is rapidly becoming an extremist organization. If that sounds harsh, check out their ideas. Your friendly neighborhood librarian and the ALA have very little in common. If any of your educational concerns deal with the school library or censorship (the ALA hasn't seen a book or video that a child shouldn't check out), then you must understand this group and their idea of the First Amendment.
 
American School Directory: lists over 106,000 individual Web sites of K-12 schools in the United States. Includes school information, pictures, maps, calendars and "wish lists."
 
Arkansas Division of Child Care And Early Childhood Education - site features information for parents, and a searchable database of childcare providers.
 
AskERIC - ERIC is a federally funded national information system of 16 specific clearinghouses of education related issues. Your best friend in education may very well be named ERIC. This is a wonderful resource.
 
Association for Childhood Education International - supports child-centered, whole curriculum education from infancy through early adolescence; professional development is promoted through membership, publications and conferences.
 
Canadian Association for Young Children (CAYC) - national association specifically concerned with the wellbeing of children, birth through age nine, at home, preschool or school.
 
Center for Educational Technology (CET) - independent non-profit organization dedicated to improving Israel's educational system.
 
Center for the Prevention of School Violence
 
Council for Basic Education - independent non-profit, membership organization that promotes a curriculum strong in the basic subjects for all children in the nation's elementary and secondary schools.
 
Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) - This is a pretty exclusive club. The top education person from each state belongs to CCSSO. Even if you aren't the Top Dog in Education in your state, they allow you to visit their site. You can go to the website of each state's education department from here. Go to the U.S. map and click on your state.
 
Council for Exceptional Children - The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

This website and magazine can give you invaluable information that will be helpful when you are dealing with a school board, or if you plan to be on a board.
